I'm going to be in Atlanta around christmas time and was wondering if anyone had played any courses within resonable driving distance (30 minutes or so) from Atlanta they would recommend playing. I have researched a couple courses via dgcoursereview but was wandering if anyone had any suggestions.

Fkyboy aviation is only 20 minutes west of Atlanta. Best course in the country, period.

Perkerson is real solid, but look on the local forum to check the status as they had grass tees and a couple of the baskets were messed up when I was there. JP Moseley is worth playing - it has a great deal of variety, multiple tees, and some really interesting shots. Check out the 2011 Atlanta Open video on youtube to get a good look at it.
Flyboy is definitely a unique experience and an awesome course, and it's listed as extinct on DGCR mostly because the owner was getting overwhelmed with requests to play it (he or someone else there has to escort every group). That said, people still play it on occasion and you might be able to get on if you contact Kelly. In fact, Fred and some others are going there in early January

Well I was considering Perkerson but was unsure since it's still under construction. I doubt i could play flyboy because i will be playing either christmas eve or christmas day. It looks like an amazing course, maybe some day if i'm lucky.

Alex, check out east Roswell park. 3 tee pads per hole and pretty tightly wooded. It is off of Holcomb bridge road just north of i285. Only been in a few years.
